Seniors know all too well that Original Medicare does not pay for dental coverage, vision care or hearing aids. Medicare Supplementplans do not pay for dental coverage (nor do they pay for vision care and hearing aids), although carriers can provide “value added” benefits that provide some form of coverage (usually in the form of some kind of discount plan).  Medicare Advantage plans that include dental often cover only preventive care and possibly certain services like extractions and adjustment of full or partial dentures.  Vision and hearing benefits are often included but the hearing benefit is usually limited to a certain amount every three years.  You should check to determine what types of coverage are provided through the “value added” benefits of your Medicare Supplement plan, if any, and your Outline of Coverage for your Medicare Advantage plan to determine if adequate coverage is provided. 

Today, there is an all-in-one dental, vision and hearing  plan that provides coverage up to age 84.  The plan is guaranteed issue, which means that there are no health questions to qualify.  Benefits are paid in addition to any other coverage you may have.  The plan helps pay for things like routine cleanings, root canals, fillings, extractions, major and restorative services, and dentures.  It also helps to pay for eye exams, eye wear, hearing exams and hearing aids.  Benefits under this plan are paid in addition to any other coverage you may have.  Cost for a senior is about $31 per month (cost varies by age and state of residence) for the $1000 benefit (a $1500 benefit is also available, and a $2000 maximum benefit is available in AZ, FL and NC).  The plan can be become active as soon as the day after the application is signed.
